Hey middle school parents/teacher/enthusiasts.... RTI is really invading our world. On the surface, it seems like a great idea. We carve out instructional time to help the students who are missing skills (as judged mostly by TVAAS date) and we help them succeed in that arena. But the other side of the story is that related arts time is cut by AT LEAST a third. And thats assuming that we have no snow days or picture days or assemblies or anything else than invades the schedule. I would NEVER in a million years tell my band students this, but every concert Ive had this year has been the worst in my 9 year career (compared to similar concerts in previous years). And its all due to seeing my students on an AB schedule as opposed to a regular daily schedule like HMS had for the first 8 years of my career. Some of the members of this group are parents of my students in the Halls Middle School Band program, and for them this post will strike home more than most. Some are future parents. Others are in similar situations. Whoever you are.... SPEAK out. This is not helping the majority of our students. There is a better way. Let them know!
