Hey stargazers. Weve a real treat this evening, the chance to see - TopicsExpress

Hey stargazers. Weve a real treat this evening, the chance to see the second of three supermoon viewings this summer. The August full moon will delight sky watchers. It will occur within the hour the moon reaches its closest point to the Earth at about 2:09 (ET), this afternoon. At that time, the moon will be about 222,000 miles from Earth. Experts say the best time to see the August 10 supermoon is when the full moon begins to rise at about 7:53 p.m. (ET) until just after sunset at around 8:08 p.m. (ET). During that time, the moon will appear about 30 times brighter and 14 percent larger than a regular full moon. Chances are fairly good for a supermoon sighting as AccuWeather is forecasting a partly cloudy sky, tonight. So grab your lawn chair, a sweet tea, and be sure to apply the bug spray, then get ready for a heavenly double feature. The 2014 Perseid meteor shower should be visible this weekend for skywatchers in the Northern Hemisphere. The annual celestial show, regarded as one of the most reliable meteor showers of the year! Happy stargazing and thanks for listening to WXCY. ~ Jim King
