Hey there folks, more on the USAW BOD Election stuff. I was at a meet all day coaching and watching lifters do great things, so I didn;t have much time to talk to people. Ive gotten great input from at karge members, neighboring LWC Officers, and BOD members on this topic, and Id like to share the most important piece of information with you: From the 2008 By-Laws of USAW, as published on their website: Section 6.6.b.v: At-large Directors. The Nominating and Governance Committee shall collect the nominations of any interested individuals with at least ten (10) recommendations from other members. The entire membership will then vote for one (1) at-large director. The Nominating and Governance Committee will then select the second at-large director from the same list of nominees presented to the entire membership. At no time may the At-Large Directors consist of more than one Coach as that term is defined in this Section. The second to last sentence is the one causing confusion. Apparently, USAW believes this section to mean that since an At-Large Director was elected in 2012 (Mike Graber), the next At-Large Director is to be selected by the Nominating Comittee from the group of qualified nominees. Unfortunately, I have to agree with USAw on this point. The Immediately preceeding ssection header speaks of subsequent boards, boards which follow the initial 2009 BOD. I DISAGREE witht hsi provision in practice, but it is in the By-Laws. I do not know what the intent of this provision is. HOWEVER, I would like to find out the history fo the At-ALrge Positions ont he BOD and trace what and who has been elected. If the current At-Large Member, Artie Dreschler, was elected in 2010, would he not then be up for election again? Or should Mike Grabers election have been the At-Large member who was chosen by the comittee? In 2010, Megan Tournstrom-DeFourney was an At-Large Director. The April 27, 2010 Board of Directors Highlights state that her position would be up for election that year. Is the current At-Large Director in Megans old position? If not, then the current at-large director must be in Mark Camerons Old Position, correct? Which At-Large Seat, then, should have fallen into the selection process vs. the election process? These two questions meed to be answered before we go any further. I cannot find the actual election results on USAW Website tonght. If anyone has them, please let me know.
