Hey, this is the Chaplain again. I want to talk about discovering God’s will for your life; that can be easy to complicate. So what I want to give you today is a starting point to finding the will of God for your life. And the best place to start is with the words of Jesus Himself. In Matthew 7:7 He said, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you.” Jesus gave us this model for prayer, and it teaches us a lot. But take a look at that second component that He emphasizes in this verse: SEEK. To seek in prayer is to surrender your will to the will of God and to submit your ways to the ways of God. We get more insight when we look at the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ found in Matthew 6. Jesus told us to pray: “Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored, may your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (vs 9-10) What Jesus sought in His prayer was for God’s way and God’s will: “May your kingdom come and your will be done . . .” But to understand God’s will for your life, you must first seek God’s will in your prayers. And what many Christians don’t understand is that prayer isn’t trying to change God’s mind, but to find God’s mind. Check 1 John 5:14-15. It’s been said that nothing lies outside the reach of prayer, except that which lies outside of the will of God. So when you seek God’s will in prayer… when you seek His will here on earth as it is done in heaven… you’ll learn what God wants to do with your life. Prayer is not changing God’s mind to be more like yours. In fact, it’s the exact opposite! So when you pray, open yourself first and foremost to a change in your own mind because that’s how you start to discover God’s will for your life. Maybe that’s something for you to pray about. If you need to talk to someone about spiritual things, you can always call Chaplain Paul at (479) 264-6146, or email: chaplain.northcut@gmail . I’d love to talk and pray with you, anytime. May the Lord, Jesus Christ, draw you always closer to Himself.
