Hey you , yes you , have you ever felt like someone is trying to render you stupid or worthless , or even insult you in a hidden manner by constantly using jokes ?? Ive been studying the effects of humor as part of an assignment .. And came across an important piece of info that might help you justify your gut feeling that the given person might be trying to degrade you in public or in a social group by constantly using stupid jokes : The excuse assumes that a joke is just a joke and cannot be taken seriously. This is exactly the rhetorical effectiveness upon which offensive comic discourse relies. But on the contrary , a joke can be taken seriously ,depending on the intent of the person making the joke ... a joke is not just a joke ..there is a hidden hand behind it ..and it is the intent of the individual making the joke ...the joke usually never reveals or hides the true intent of the person under a layer of polysemic/ambiguous words and expressions ..that can have multiple interpretations/meanings...meaning , a weak person who is not honest can easily try to use jokes to hide their weakness , anger towards you , or jealousy etc. ...by using jokes the person achieves relief of tension without risking their relationship with you ...thats when they wanna offend you ..but they also dont want you to find out what they really think of you ... 2 potential key approaches to solving the problem in the comments .
