#HeyFellas...so about this verbal harassment video floating around. What I dont like is that it generalizes all of the interactions in that video as harassment. I watched it and I actually counted the guys who said something inappropriate or that could be considered harassy (such as Damn!) vs the guys who just said something nice (such as How are you?). Yes, about half of those comments (~45%) were inappropriate. Those are incredibly annoying and seldom work in the guy’s favor. But I dont want to or need to address those, because others have already done so extensively. What Id like to address is the other ~55% who just made nice comments like “How are you this evening?”. While it can be overwhelming at times for us to get so much attention, I encourage you to be comfortable exchanging pleasantries with women. We welcome your respectful comments of “Well, Good Morning!” or “You have a nice day!”. For the fellas who do this, I’d like to thank you and encourage you to keep it up for a few reasons: 1. You just never know when the woman you say something pleasant to actually needed to hear something nice and the fact that your tone indicates you said it b/c she looks good, might be needed as well. We can all pretend like we don’t but the truth is, we all like to be noticed. 2. It’s the human thing to do, we should be connecting with one another daily through amiable exchanges. 3. A pleasantry with a tone of attraction is a gentlemanly way to provide a subtle compliment and well, who doesn’t love a gentleman…and a compliment! That said, my positive takeaway from the video is that over half of you fellas are actually gentlemen…now that’s a statistic ya won’t see in the news!!
