Heya guys, I got challenged to the #ALSIceBucketChallenge by my friend Philip Choa! But unfortunately, I wont be doing it within the next 24 hours as I already have something planned out next week with a friend of mine whos currently travelling. Hope to get a video out soon and contribute to the movement. But before I go on, heres a little thing I have an issue with. Some people say that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is very gimmicky and is just a fad that will go away. Some people say its a cheap thrill for some people to try to get famous on the Internet. Yeah, weve seen the videos of people throwing ice all over themselves. Yeah, weve seen the links to Youtube channels of celebrities doing the stunt. Many have done a video up but not as many have explained what ALS is and this MAY cause people to not give a damn about the movement and dismiss it as just another Internet fad. But Im telling you this. ALS is very real. It is something thats here to stay unless people do something about it. I really hope people all over will contribute towards its end. The Ice Bucket Challenge is something that works. It works because it gets people to talk about it. It gets people to spread the awareness. Many people who did the challenge are donating. Funds are being raised. Everyone is hoping that all the donations are gonna be used for a good cause - find a cure, or at least a drug that would help those who are suffering. So here comes the most important question of all - Whats ALS? A friend of mine who is also a nurse, Hassan, posted this up recently on his Facebook profiles wall and I thought this pretty much sums it up. ALS short for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. A progressive neuro-degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. ALS is also know by another name which is Lou Gehrigs Disease. Patients suffering from ALS will have a progressive degeneration of the motor neurons which then affects the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. ALS is a scary disease and the ice bucket challenge is a cause to help ALS suffers. Do your part and help combat ALS. Its real. Its scary. Its something you wont want your loved ones to have. Do I personally know of anyone with ALS? No. Am I an expert in the research and studies for ALS? No. But I want to do my part. In the meanwhile, heres something that YOU should watch to understand how it really affects some peoples lives... how it really is to live with ALS, how it really is to live with loved ones who suffer from ALS.
