Hi After this mornings patchy frost, were getting to the time of year where the paper headlines ramp up the risk of us seeing mammoths wandering down the local High Street and snow piling up until June. Well, we cant promise any of that, but it does look like well see a couple of cooler days next week on the 4th and 5th - a more widespread frost and snow on the mountains and higher hills of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, northern England and Ireland. It is still almost a week away but the charts show the possible frost (ground temperature, not air temp) and where the snow risk chart is bright red or purple, the highest chance of seeing some snow or sleet (itll only settle on the hill tops and mountains). Dont dust off the sledge just yet though, it could change and itll not last as milder air will roll in from the Atlantic, along with rain and wind and its a pretty normal pattern for November, so dont believe the more eyebrow raising headlines that are bound to appear. Ian PS On the snow risk chart the percentage chance of snow is shown in the colour coded key on the left, and the wavy red lines show the freezing level, that is the height in metres where it will be zero degrees.
