Hi All, I just revived an email for a student conducting research on Native American student retention and persistence. My name is Craig and I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Connecticut and I am doing a two-year, quantitative, nation-wide, study on Native American/Alaska Native college students, where I am attempting to validate my instrument on transculturation. Transculturation looks at how Native students adjust to college by looking at a number of support factors. I am postulating that the more the students perceive to be supported by staff, faculty, friends, the institution, their tribal community and family, the more likely a culture exchange will transpire, cultural resilience, which in turns leads to a higher GPA, retention and persistence. In my first round of data collection, I had approximately 500 students from 40 universities/colleges that represented over 50 tribes/villages. I am trying to gain a wider variance of Native during this round of data collection and I am trying to gain students from Arkansas. I was anticipating that perhaps you could distribute the instrument to your Native students through your listserv. The data collection will be via online and is completely anonymous. During my last round of data collection, if 20 or more students participated in the study, I compiled a research report of the results for that campus. Thank you for your time.
