Hi All, The DSS put on some great racing for us last Sunday and Gilbert Leitch did a great job as PRO. The breeze was NW at up to 15 knots (apart from one short 20 knot gust that flattened several of our boats) and our start line was well clear of the other divisions making for good clean racing. On top of that we had special guest appearances from some of our local sailing legends including Farr40 stalwarts Hughie Lewis, Nick Dineen and Gary Cumberbatch on Three Blind Mice and double world champion Paul Burnell and Richard Goodfellow on Mind Games. Race 1 saw all 9 boats right on the line jostling for the best position but Hughie was a fraction premature and had to turn back (now we know how Julie feels). As the fleet approached the top mark it was hard to pick who was going to get around first, Ted Grubb was looking good but Karabos just snuck in front to take the lead. The rest of the fleet was close behind with Steve Chau moving into second place on the run and staying there for most of the race until being pipped by David Graney just on the finishing line. Race two saw the breeze swing to the left making the pin end favoured. Most of the fleet recognised the wind change and made their way to the favoured end for the start. It paid to work all the way to the left hand layline which most of us did arriving at the top mark tightly bunched. A bit of friendly rules discussion ensued then off down the run we went. Karabos managed to hang on to a slight lead to finish first, then Scott Brain second and Dave Graney in third spot. Race three was much the same as race two with the first three positions the same across the finishing line. Colleen had a spectacular knock down just before crossing the finishing line but recovered quickly to tie with Ciau Baby lll. Everyone can have a sleep in this Sunday as there is no racing. It’s just as well as the forecast maximum temperature is ………9 degrees. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Cheers Nick Rogers
