Hi All. The message below was posted on the Nijmegen Samba Festival facebook page yesterday Again it was a great party! We have enjoyed it. The Nijmegen Samba Festival was a great success for the 10th time, we look back on a very successful weekend. On Saturday, more than 150 percussionists from across Europe has get taught by great teachers. On Sunday, more than 20 groups gave performances and workshops in a sunlit Nijmegen. We also want to draw your attention to the financial situation of the Nijmegen Samba Festival Foundation. For some years now we have no subsidy or sponsoring. In recent years we have lived on a buffer that we had from previous years. Now, however, we really ran out of money. For the workshop we had planned to pay all the costs out of selling the ticket. Unfortunately, Only 150 of the 250 tickets were sold, making the cost (mainly consisting of the travel expenses of the teachers) higher than the income. The cost for Sunday (permits and exemptions, promotion and care of the groups) are not covered by the income (such as rental of market stalls). Groups that have participated in our festival before have noticed that in the disappearance of a number of services that we have offered you previously (lunch, free parking). This means that this weekend cost us a considerable amount of money. The samba festival is organized by a foundation consisting of three persons who are therefore jointly and severally liable. In short: We have to pay the difference from our own pockets to settle. You will understand that this puts the persistence of the festival in danger.
