WORLD BANK REPORT LAUNCH: Women, Business and the Law 2014: Removing Restrictions to Enhance Gender Equality The Institute of Global Finance (IGF), would like to cordially invite you to attend a Forum at which the Director of the Global Indicators Group of the World Bank, Dr Augusto Lopez-Claros, will launch the World Bank’s Women, Business and the Law 2014: Removing Restrictions to Enhance Gender Equality Report. The report discusses a number forces that are influencing the process of gender equality. Both the report and the subsequent analysis of this theme will be presented. Date: Thursday 16 October Time: 10.30am - 12:00 pm Location: Level 6, Business Lounge Room, West Wing, UNSW Business School Building Please read on for more details about the report and the key-note speaker: One of the major reports released by the World Bank called Women, Business and the Law has incredible data and insights about the dimension of gender inequality and also provides great insight regarding socio-economic factors associated with gender inequality in over 143 countries. It also analyses laws that impact women entrepreneurs and employees globally. The new edition highlights reforms carried out over the past two years and expands coverage to examine legal protections addressing violence against women and analyses the nature of discrimination against women. Since March of 2011 Dr Augusto López-Claros has been the Director of the Global Indicators Group with the World Bank. He was Chief Economist and Director of the Global Competitiveness Program at the World Economic Forum in Geneva, where he was the editor of the Global Competitiveness Report, the Forum’s flagship publication, as well as a number of regional economic reports. Before joining the Forum he was Executive Director with Lehman Brothers (London) and Senior International Economist. He was the International Monetary Fund’s resident representative in the Russian Federation during 1992-95. Before joining the IMF, he was professor of economics at the University of Chile in Santiago. López-Claros was educated in England and the United States, receiving a diploma in Mathematical Statistics from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Duke University.
