Hi All We went on a bus tour of Tom Price mine today, it was terrific made so by the bus driver who was also the tour guide. He had a running commentary that started as soon as we got on the bus and stopped when we got off. The mine was truly amazing we were up close to everything, the trucks that carry the ore are enormous they can carry 300 tonne. It is amazing that it started as a mountain and has ended as a great big hole, where we were at the lookout is the original site, the top of the mountain can be seen in the background. We were told all about the process from digging it out of the ground up to when it is loaded onto the trains to go to the port. They don’t use Port Hedland that is BHPBilliton. There were no trains to load so we didn’t get to see that. After the tour we went up to a lookout, it was 4wd only rough and steep. It is called Mount Nameless, Jarndrunmunhna by the local Aboriginals. It was a scary road especially at the top but the views over the town and the mine was something out of the box. We leave tomorrow heading down through Paraburdoo and around to Karratha. We haven’t made any plans about where to stay it will be on the spot decisions. Cheers for now Graham and Jenny.
