Hi All! Well the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon here in Norway proved - TopicsExpress

Hi All! Well the Norseman Xtreme Triathlon here in Norway proved to be many things....brutal is a word which describes it well, as does tough, cold, challenging...oh did I forget to mention BRUTAL?! It is by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life but one of the most rewarding. So many times yesterday I wanted to jump into the car, curl up on the side of the road...or cry! The swim was good (yes, I said it was good Matthew Thomas!), did a relatively good time despite not really doing any swim training but felt very disorientated coming out of the water (the pictures prove this!). The bike however proved to be a different story! There were 5 pretty big climbs (8-9%) with matching steep descents which were fun when it wasnt pouring with rain! The wind was also horrendous (head and side winds along the 2 plains) and to add insult to injury there was a thick blanket of fog on the last climb with temperatures in the very low teens! The run was very pretty along the lake up towards Gaustablikk with the last half of the marathon up the side of the mountain! As you can imagine I was relieved to have finished, proud in what I achieved and thankful that I was given that golden ticket to compete in this amazing event! I want to thank my amazing, wonderful, inspiring husband Mat Lock for all his encouragement and support. For making this journey even more special by just being here, for swimming with me in the fjords (even when it was bitterly cold), for running the last half of the marathon with me and for his unwavering belief that I could finish! To my great crew yesterday - Maureen Lock and Chris - thanks for all the words of encouragement, for clanging the bell and for travelling so far from home to be with us. To my coach Matthew Thomas.....thanks for your belief in me and for pushing me to be better - Im going to have to find something now to top this event! To my family - my mum and dad (Barbara Bermingham) and my sister (Kate Bermingham) for all their support and kind words - they meant so much! And to all my friends scattered all over the world - a big thanks for all your messages of support, encouragement and best wishes - I want you all to know just how much they meant to me! Well, must sign off as I have to tackle some old bird in the hotel reception as she wants the last available wheelchair....but little does she know it has my name written all over it! Much love to you all - #52 Norseman Finisher! X
