Hi Everyone. As was my choice when my grandfather first got sick - TopicsExpress

Hi Everyone. As was my choice when my grandfather first got sick and then passed, I tried to keep as many of his friends and family and supporters abreast of what was going on via this page. I tried to bring him honor and respect while making sure that each of you knew what was happening and encourage you to share in that difficult journey with us, his immediate family. Grandpa and Grandma met and helped and encouraged so many people through the years especially in their 65 years of ministry that I felt it was right to share. Tonight I am doing the same except that I am bringing you news of our sweet Matriarch, my grandma who is affectionately known as “Darlin”. I apologize in advance if this is a surprise to some but have taken great care to try to make sure that our family was aware prior to sharing tonight. You can feel free to check this page often and I will try to provide updates as they come to me. For a while now grandma has been in the progressing stages of Alzheimer’s and more recently been dealing with vertigo. Most recently she has also had some spells where she has also blacked out. Well, today came that dreaded call where she had blacked out and fallen. She was home with Frankie when it happened and when she began complaining about her leg hurting an ambulance was called. Long story short grandma broke her hip today and is in the hospital. There was also some concern over the possibility that mini strokes may have caused the black outs but that has not been confirmed yet. Today they ran scans and blood work to find out about the blacking out and also to determine the extent of damage to her hip. The orthopedic doctor is scheduled to visit her tomorrow and we will know more then. There are many concerns right now not the least of which is the fact that Grandma has had heart surgery and a few short years ago they would not do an additional surgery because of her heart troubles. I am not a pessimist by any stretch but I am a realist and so we understand there could be some major challenges presented when the surgery option is explored. I cannot recall a time when my grandma didn’t smile in spite of whatever may be going on but I am sure this is a challenge that is difficult for her and is tough for our family to watch. She, along with my grandfather, have been for years the glue that kept us together during any trial or struggle and now it is our desire to try to be for her what she has been for us and many others all of her life…strength, a prayer warrior, and her encouragers. I ask for prayers for peace for her and for our family as we walk through this together, Prayers for physical comfort as she endures pain this evening; and prayers for wisdom for us the family, for her doctors, and for traveling for my mom as she makes her way unscheduled home tonight (driving all night) from Michigan. Thank you so much to everyone for caring for and loving our family and especially my sweet grandparents. Grandma is at Lexington Medical center and again, I will share updates as I get them.
