Hi Everyone. I dont get to see all of you every week, so I wanted to give you some news about myself so you dont hear it secondhand. We all know how things can get messed up in the telling. I have breast cancer. I just found out on Monday. I will be having a mastectomy at Mercy West tomorrow at 1:30. I was very fortunate that an opening became available because I would have had to wait until August 11th. We all know how impatient I can get. I just want this part over with. I have a very good surgeon and feel confident that eventually, everything will be okay since breast cancer has a 90% survival rate after five years. I will not be having breast reconstruction surgery, Im 67 and what would I do with one perky tit? I seriously doubt if my insurance would pay for a tuneup on the other one so I can have a matching pair. Im not a good candidate for a lumpectomy since I have three lumps and the patients who do best with lumpectomies only have one. Of course I am nervous, but there are some things that you have to do in life no matter how much you wish you dont have to do. And, as I firmly believe, shit happens. I am only supposed to be in the hospital overnight. My good friends Phil and Judi Barcus have invited me to stay with them for a couple of days to give me time to get my act together. I am so very grateful to them for their kindness. Im letting my son, Walt, hack my Facebook account so he can post some updates on the situation. Ladies, please schedule a mammogram if you are due for one. I never would have found these lumps with a self examination since they are too small. Guys, nag the women in your lives to get mammograms. You may save their life. If you think of it, please say a prayer for Walt and me. Hugs and Love, Mickey
