Hi Everyone.. I had a question brought to me, that I want to - TopicsExpress

Hi Everyone.. I had a question brought to me, that I want to talk about with all of you. The Question was : Why do you take pictures of cemeteries? Do you think it is offensive to the people whose families that are buried there? My response to those questions are as follows. First of all. Yes, I am a paranormal investigator and No, It shouldnt offend anyone. The way I see it, the people in the cemeteries were families, friends and loved ones by someone. I personally have family buried in several cemeteries. If I should die today, I would hope that sometime in the future, someone would take pictures of my grave. In my mind, I dont take pictures to offend anyone. I take them to keep the memory of the people alive. Some of the graves are very old. They are important to our history. Each person in the cemetery contributed something to our past history. Whether they were a teacher, lawyer, doctor, law enforcement, or a parent, friend etc. They meant something to someone and that makes them important in history. Children that passed at birth, or as infants, or later as teenagers , all of these had an impact on others lives. To me, it is important to keep their memory alive. Some of the graves I have visited have no names on them, some have no marker whatsoever, some have just a burial place where the dirt is sinking in. Should we just forget about them? Of course not. My grandparents, great grandparents, most of my aunts, uncles , my ex-husband, my fiancee and wonderful friends have all passed away. I dont mind if others take pictures of their graves and markers. I want the world to know how fortunate I was to have these people in my life. I have seen some graves that are covered in grass and tall weeds, where no one has been to visit their graves in a long time. I dont want these people forgotten about. They are a part of our history and heritage. Yes, I am a paranormal investigator, but I am also a person. A mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin . I want my legacy to continue on with my children and grandchildren. Someday, perhaps, my great grandbabes or great great grandbabes, may ask about their family history..and they will explore the world of the past. There are too many forgotten cemeteries around WV. The memory of these people should be brought back to life in order for future generations to know some of their history. I know of a few cemeteries where the men served in wars, or killed in mine explosions and alot of people have just forgotten about them as time has marched on. Perhaps that is why there are so many restless spirits. Maybe they just want people to know that they did make a difference in history. They should be remembered. That is what I am trying to do with my pictures I take. Preserving their place in time. Keeping their memory alive for others....I would never try to offend anyone. I just want our heritage kept alive for the future generations. Thank you. ~Patricia Shelor Co-founder for WSP.
