Hi Everyone. I have just returned from a trip to visit family so I wasnt able to post any information from Sadies first holistic vet last week. My husband and I are very happy with our appointment. This vet has been educated conventionally and also worked in a Canine Cardiac ER. He decided to venture into holistic/chiropractic/acupuncture/nutrition and has been working his own practice for 14 years. Sorry...this will be VERY long but some of you may find it helpful :-) He reviewed all our info, we discussed her raw diet (cool and neutral foods only) and then he did his exam. Sadie had a T12 (thoractic) vertebrae out of alignment as well as her pelvis. He did a spinal manipulation and realigned those issues. We will probably need two more visits to keep all in proper alignment. He then began to do NRT and AK. He tested every food item, probiotic and lotion we use on Sadie, even her tooth paste and foot pad moisturizer to make sure they did not show any weaknesses. To explain what this is I am posting the explanation directly from his website at the bottom of this post, not as an advertisement, but as info only. His name and practice are NOT included. Sadie was found to have a 3 (from a scale of 1-6) heart murmur, weakness in adrenal function and thyroid, as well as, aluminum toxicity believed to be from her 10 years of annual vaccinations. She is receiving the following supplements: 1. Vetri-Science Vetri-Cardio Canine Chews 2. PetiGreen - chinese herbals 3. Standard Process Canine Adrenal Support supplement (powder) 4. Standard Process Hypothalmex supplement (tablet 5. Standard Process Paratoid PMG (tablet) We will need to take her to a cardiologist and we will also be getting new hormone blood tests from our traditional vet. We are beginning a new path regarding the heart but I will be happy to keep you posted if you are interested. Happy New Year to all! ********************************************************************************************** NRT - Through Nutritional Response Testing (NRT), we can utilize the patients’ nervous system to determine which organs are specifically being compromised. It has been determined that many patients with chronic conditions, including those involving dermatologic, gastrointestinal, neurological, musculoskeletal, endocrine, neoplastic and even behavioral issues, are commonly attributed to chronic poor nutrition and environmental factors. The five common stressors that inhibit our body’s ability to heal include food sensitivities, scars, pathogens (bacterial, yeast, fungus, viruses, parasites), chemical burden and heavy metals – stored in our bodies cells. NRT uses the animals innate neurologic response to these stressors by testing a muscle reflex. The reflexes are the bodys’ way of communicating to us the health of the nervous system, which is quite specific in how it conducts information to every organ in the body. This testing includes a full body scan to evaluate all organs, glands and musculoskeletal structures. The analysis is performed by the practitioner contacting the reflex area with one hand, while the other hand is testing the muscle of an indirect testers extended arm. If the reflex being tested is stressed, the patients’ nervous system will respond by reducing energy to the indirect testers arm, which will result in a weakening of the muscle and the arm will go down. This weak muscle response is an indication of underlying organ stress or dysfunction and likely a contributing factor in your pets’ poor health. Once this weakness is identified, we then determine which of the common stressors might be factors to the poor organ function. If a stressor is not identified, it is often determined that the patient primarily requires specific nutritional support, using whole food supplementation. AK - Applied Kinesiology provides a window to the nervous system to help identify the relationships between structural, chemical and mental factors that contribute to health and disease. AK is an interdisciplinary approach to health care which draws together the core elements of the complementary therapies, creating a more unified approach to the diagnosis and treatment of functional illness. Just as the NRT utilizes the nervous system via muscle testing, AK has a similar approach. We are finding that this technique is significantly complimenting our spinal manipulation assessments. Subluxations are identified via motion palpation of each joint in the body. AK can then be used to confirm the subluxation by a muscle response of weakness. Once the subluxation has been corrected, the muscle response will turn strong – confirming the success of our treatment.
