Hi Everyone, Ive had a difficult few weeks to-ing and fro-ing from hospitals in Pokhara, so this is just to let you know that I have to go to hospital in Kathmandu on Sunday so may not be around for a few days. It transpires one of my kidneys is almost completely blocked, swollen and infected, so something has to be done quickly. The good news is that it is still functioning a bit, so theres a good chance they can save it. The aim is to try to insert a stent, at least initially, but if they cant Ill have to have some more drastic surgery and stay in for a week. The team of consultants Ive had so far has been absolutely wonderful and have pulled out all the stops for me; there is every chance that this is the result of radiotherapy I had 32 years ago! So watch this space, and I shall be able to give you an inside story of Nepali hospitals! Having said that, the one Ill be in has a really good reputation; the Professor who is dealing with me is a co-owner of the hospital and the good news is that he worked for the NHS in the UK for 10 years, so I feel a lot more comfortable about my forthcoming experience than I would have done otherwise.
