Hi Everyone! The 2014-2015 season is starting soon and we can’t wait! We have experienced a lot over the past ten years, and it was an honor and a dream come true to represent our country at our first Olympic Games this past season in Sochi. We’ve had a great off-season and our preparation for this coming season has been going really well. Short Dance: For the Short Dance, we are excited that this year’s pattern dance is the Paso Doble. We competed the Paso when we were younger, and it has always been one of our favorite dances. Out of the permitted accompanying dance rhythms, we have chosen the Flamenco and the Paso Doble. As soon as we found out what the rhythms were for this season, we knew that we would have the opportunity to again work with Corky Ballas. He has been a part of our team since 2011, and we are so lucky to have him. Alex and I have been committing ourselves to every aspect of the program and that gives us a lot of confidence. Putting extensive work, passion, and thought into our craft is something that defines us as a team. Free Dance: Even during the Olympic season, we were always listening to music and planning with our coach, Marina Zoueva. Before the World Championships this past March, we knew the music we wanted to skate to this season. Because the Short Dance has such an intense and dramatic style, we wanted our Free Dance to provide balance and contrast. The pieces we have selected are, Rosen aus dem Süden (Roses From the South) and The Blue Danube. Both pieces were composed by Johann Strauss, and they are performed by Andre Rieu and his orchestra. While I was arranging the music, I was thrilled with how naturally and beautifully it all came together. As I worked on it, I had no doubt that it would be an intuitive process once we began choreography. This Free Dance allows us to display some of our best qualities. The music is majestic, and we can’t wait to share it with you. We have a very exciting addition to our coaching team. Massimo Scali is now a part of our team in Canton. Alex and I have admired his skating career and his work as a coach over the past few years. I honestly could not have imagined a more seamless transition with him. Every minute is exciting, and we always accomplish so much working with Massy. The energy at the rink has been fresh and invigorating. Another great addition to our amazing support system has been Charlie White. Since he is not competing this year, he has been mentoring us. As we enter our eleventh season, we feel so fortunate that we are continuing on this journey with Marina. Her process and creative vision is magical. She sees the big picture and brings out our very best. Her energy, support, and belief in us gives us confidence. We love our material this year, and can’t wait for you to see it. Maia and Alex
