Hi Everyone! This is Avas mom (Therese) posting. Life has been good and well pretty normal. Ava (and Andrew) are doing well and enjoying life. I even started back to work this week. But this normalcy is about to end for a bit. Next week we begin the last 6 months of Avas treatment. So Ava will be receiving Antibody treatment. Basically it goes into the body and seeks out any cancer that cant be detected by scans, etc. It has shown a lot of success over the past few years. As Ava has no evidence of disease she is eligible for this treatment (kids who still have a lot of cancer cannot receive this treatment). So we are thankful that Ava is able to get this treatment. Over the next 5 months Ava will spend about 7 weeks in the hospital (CHOP). She will also have follow-up appointments in between. This phase does not come without risk. It causes a lot of pain while being infused (during the hospital stay). Ava will be on pain meds to help with this. Also it can cause some heart and lung issues. But the good news is there are no long term side effects like chemo or radiation. So please stay with us and pray with us that Ava has no major complications or side effects. Anytime Ava is in the hospital, Andrew has a difficult time with separation. So I would also please ask that you pray that Andrew finds some peace with this final phase of treatment.
