Hi Everyone, We are cautiously optimistic at this point that House Bill 5144 will be brought to a vote in the Senate before the midnight deadline tomorrow, Wednesday May 7. Keep in mind it truly is not done until the Governors signature is on the bill....anything can happen and we are still working very hard to do what we can to keep it on track. But this is where we stand this morning.... Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch is coming up to Hartford to do a news conference with Rep. David Alexander this afternoon at 1 p.m. “Now is the time to give adoptees the basic human rights that we have been barred from for far too long,” said Finch. Here is his press release: onlyinbridgeport/wordpress/finch-urges-passage-of-adoption-legislation/ An effort is being made to get as many of the bills cosponsors there as possible, as that adds weight to the bill. Carol Goodyear and myself will also be there just in case anyone in the media wants to interview an advocate. For the rest of the day I will be probably be unable to send a newsletter but again, I will let you know as soon as we have more substantive news.
