Hi Family, I hope this finds you well. However you come across our message via an email or on Facebook I hope you take the time to read this. We have continued on with our mission and despite some teething problems we have established a new service in Edmonton, North East London, U.K. African Sons and Daughters (ASD) is a public organisation which means we do not have any shareholders. Any profits from our operations go back into our mission which is to promote and encourage the social, economical and physical wellbeing of the African community in U.K and worldwide.” 2013 has been an interesting year and most notably the passing of Madiba aka Nelson Mandela marked the end of an era in our recent history. We rightfully celebrate the lives, sacrifices, and accomplishment of our African historical figures. They become figureheads who represent a time in our lives that we will study and learn from. People like Rt Hon Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King Jr and now Madiba join our ancestors and must never be forgotten. Unfortunately it is easy to idolise individuals and sometimes overlook the contributions of the people who were behind the person. Marcus Garvey helped set up U.N.I.A (Universal Negro Improvement Association) and was the head of an organisation that had 3 million members in their prime. Martin Luther King and Madiba had the support of people at a local, nation and international level. There were many people involved with what we now put down to individuals. Without people supporting them and joining their cause they would not have been able to accomplish anything. As a community we need to take charge of our destiny in order to solve our problems. Too often real possibilities are often sold as dreams. We are stronger when we harness our collective strength. This is not a novel idea, this is a real necessity. The next generation cannot inherit dreams and ideas. The next generation will need to inherit services and institutions for their challenges and triumphs ahead. If you are in London, U.K please make time to attend our next new member meeting on January 14th 2014, 7pm - 9pm, Forest Gate Methodist church, Woodgrange Road, Forest Gate, London, E7 0QH. With your support we will be able to create the foundations needed to maintain and expand our organisation.
