Hi Folks, Eleven years ago my daughter shared the news that while pregnant with my first grandchild, she had begun to exhibit symptoms of MS. As a Dad, I immediately expressed denial and based the coordination and other issues that were being displayed on a first pregnancy combined with her 105 lb. frame. The final diagnosis was going to have to wait because at that point conclusive testing would put the child at risk. Alyssa was born on May 6, 2003 and the worst fears were confirmed. Amy had MS and though treatments could be started right away, she had suffered some serious exacerbations while pregnant. Alyssa will be 11 in May. In the meantime, Amy and her husband have graced me with a handsome grandson, Austin, who turns 6 in April. While Amy continues her battle with MS, she has made a lovely home and raised a beautiful family. She is a loving Mother who would make any Dad, especially this one, proud. She is not alone. Many of us have friends and family who fight the same battle everyday. Research continues and new treatments are being discovered all the time. It is with that in mind that I share the reminder that March is MS Awareness Month. So in March, I GO ORANGE! and hope that when you see my square you will be reminded to check out ways to support the MS program in your local area. For information on local efforts check the national site: nationalmssociety.org/ To my daughter, this is a small way to let her know I love her and pray for her every day. For those in their own battles know that you do not fight alone. GO ORANGE!
