Hi Folks I am in the process of organising a public meeting to address the surge in criminality and anti social behaviour in Longford. Like other large provincial towns in rural Ireland, Longford has being the victim of unprecedented levels of criminal activity over the last decade or more and successive governments have failed to deal with this issue. We have become easy prey for criminals because of a defunct criminal justice system and an under resourced and disempowered police force. We need to find our voice and send a clear message to the Department of Justice that: We DEMAND a total reform of the Criminal Justice System. We DEMAND a complete overhaul of the Legal Aid System to end the Swinging Door policy of the courts towards repeat offenders. We DEMAND an empowered and adequately resourced An Garda Siochana who can actually carry out their duties with the confidence and support of their communities. An important point is that this is NOT an attack on any agency of the state or political party. This is a major problem effecting rural communities that needs to be addressed NOW. I would encourage all business, community and local groups to embrace this opportunity to send a clear and unified message to Dublin that we DEMAND change. I will post confirmed details soon.
