Hi Folks, Ive been lurking for a while and am now coming into the light, with a question that has been at the back of My mind for along time... Hastings Banda was the leader of Malawi from independence from the arly 60s until the 90s by which time he had become something of a dictator. In the 1940s he trained as a doctor and practiced in Northumberland Square in North Shields, I think where the estate agents are now. During that time he lodged with someone called Amy Walton in Alma Place. It also seems he may have had an affair with someone called Merene French whilst here. But i cant really get any further than that. Anyone know anything more about any of the names? Or which house it may have been I know! heavy topic for a Friday night, but it has been bugging me for ages! Oh, and Hello everyone!
