Hi Friends! As most of you know I had open heart surgery in January, 2013. I had a Congenital Heart Defect called an Anomolous Right Coronary Artery that I never knew about. I found out about my heart defect in an unusual way, whether you want to refer to it is luck, someone watching over me or a miracle. I went into have a scan of my lungs and liver. A doctor asked the technicians to scan my heart before my lungs and liver not for an medical reason whatsoever but because he (the doctor) was a cardiologist and he was curious too see the quality of heart images that this new machine could produce. Once the scan began the doctor told me that he looked at the first image of my heart and said oh shit, he immediately saw my heart defect and this was the begining of my journey. I was told by my doctors that I was very lucky to have lived so long with this heart defect. My cardiologist and my heart surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) were the best and today I have a healthy strong heart. I am so grateful to the doctor that found my heart defect, my cardiologist, my heart surgeon and all of the amazing nurses, technicians and staff at MGH. I am walking this year because I want to give back and help raise money for the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA researches many heart diseases and defects but the research and work they do regarding Congenital Heart Defects is very special to me. Sadly many with Congenital Heart Defects die without ever being diagnosed because quite often symptoms are not present or the symptoms can be attributed to something else. I want to raise money for the AHA to help fund research and pro active heart care. Living next to Boston we are so blessed to have some of the best hospitals in the world, especially MGH which is known world wide for their excellent cardiology care. Please consider making a small donation if you can or even better join my team, Miracles Happen, and walk with me! As I walk I will be remembering and honoring the beautiful life of Sabrina Feudo an 11 year old precius girl who passed away tragically on August 10th, Sabrina had a congentital heart defect. The pain her mom and dad, brother and family and friends face everyday is so horrific. I would lke to try and do my part to help raise money to aid with research and hopefully someday medical screenings that will save the life of a child like Sabrina, no parent should have to suffer the loss of their child.
