Hi Friends of Facebook, I am looking collaborate with people or business that would be interested in creating a community organic community garden to help the Food bank and the lower income people in London. My mission for an organic community garden for the food bank I am proposing a community garden here in London to grow vegetables for the food bank and the lower income people. I’m interested in finding someone who wants to initiate and take a leadership role in this project. I would like to be a volunteer support person in the background to help work in the garden and share my over 35 yrs of gardening knowledge! Could you help facilitate this by assisting in my networking efforts in this proposal, to find a person to assume a leadership role as mentioned earlier? My Mission is to get at least 3-5 acres of farm land with good soil that has at least 6 to 8 hours of sun light along with water provided by the city or owner. We could try to get permission from city hall to authorize us to use some land with good soil and create a beautiful space which increases pride in the neighbourhood. We could consensus build as to how we will initiate & organize everything and how we will delegate responsibilities as this project hopefully grows. We can decide what we want to grow; vegetables, herbs, flowers, etc. Also I think a pesticides free garden is our best option, only organic remedies. We would have natural pollinator’s like bee’s, butterflies, birds, etc. We also need to build a shed to keep tools that we share and a first aid kit in case of emergency. We could attempt to get volunteers from as many different experiences & cultures that can help us brainstorm with all members. I am thinking we would want to attract people from other groups in the community who are concerned about various social issues facing London at the moment as these people would be most likely to be to donate their skills & knowledge on a volunteer basis? Knowing, that there is a great need for low/no cost healthy food choices in our community especially right now given the high unemployment rate in London and the surrounding areas. Perhaps approach a few garden centres, lumber centres to donate free seeds and plants and maybe some tools, wood too? Also to help us build raised beds so the elderly or disabled can help out in the garden too. We need places to provide us with glass to make cold frames for early seeding in March. We need to build a compost bin, so we can use for are garden in the spring. We need pots and containers to grow herbs. We need the location of the garden to be accessible by public transit so it increases our pool of members for now & in the future and provide maps for everyone on how to get there. We could establish after getting this operating a donor list on a website of Club members; Example $ 100 and up GOLD MEMBER, $50 and up SILVER MEMBER etc. Finally(for now) after say we get a certain number of members we will need to create a contact list so we’ll all be able to network with each other & the media to continue to expand this worthwhile endeavour. I look forward to your suggestions & hopefully to working with you Sincerely Helder de Freitas 226-237-0476 volunteergardeningexpert
