Hi Gang. Craig and Diane checking in for Sept. 16th. We finally got access to the big church in Santa Domingo last night and WOW! Huge church and the remains of St Domingo and his fellow marters are entombed right there in the church! His crypt is 2 floors tall and extremely intricate. There is a larger than life carving of him laying in state atop his crypt and his tomb is below it. The amount of detailed statuary and gold guilted carvings and paintings is mind blowing. We arose in the early morning and hit the road leaving Santa Domingo to disappear behind us much like a shimmering mirage in the predawn twilight. The Way took us through many small villages today seeming like one every few miles. We took time for coffee and a light breakfast in one about 4 miles along. We are entering the vast plains land now with endless fields. Most seem to have been mowed and harvested but some still growing a dark green leafy vegetable of some kind, and some of green onions. The mountains still surround us but are a great distance away now. We covered 14 miles today taking our stop in Belorado for the night. We are now 148 miles in having finished our 12 day of walking. Ill say it does take its toll on the body. I have been walking over a week now on a pretty swollen Rt ankle, a blistered Rt foot and an oddball pain that feels like a sore Lt ham string. The pain is on and off but Im walking through it. Im still able to average 2 to 3 miles per hour. Diane has a quarter size blister on her heel which got a bit larger today. But we are determined to do this so thats that. So we are tucked in or room with about 25 other folks tonight and plan to start early tomorrow for a 17 mile leg. With luck we can get a bed at 15 miles but well see. If not its going to be 17 miles where we have a reservation. Thats all for now. Look for another update tomorrow.
