Hi Gilbert, I have been reading your site for a long time and I - TopicsExpress

Hi Gilbert, I have been reading your site for a long time and I both empathise and sympathise with those who have been subjected to harsh treatment by errant employers and those experiencing prolonged fruitless job searches. I am unemployed myself and face the same frustrations. I left my last job two weeks back due to health problems and while looking for another, I have also realised employers are not inclined to share what they want. Even if interested applicants ring up to find out the exact requirements, all they are told is “to send in resume”. Quite a few firms I have noticed since two years back they were looking for staff, till today the same advertisement still appeared! I have begun to suspect something is wrong with the firms – what can be more suspicious than the same position is advertised over-and-over again for several months? If employers want a Degree-holder, there would be 500 or more degree holders applying, yet the only requirement to anyone’s horror, for example, is nothing more than “experience in managing difficult freelancers”. I could call a firm and ask to speak to the CEO about the position, the receptionist on the other line would sound “dead” and say “no, just send in your resume”. This company whose name I won’t mention has been posting the same position intermittently for months. It’s baffling for job seekers who strive to carve out a career. It’s a battle everyday searching for that one employer who values us. Just like any human, you do face temptations to give up.
