Andheri Kurla Road, Saki Naka, Andheri Mumbai JOB PROFILE FOR LEAD TECHNICAL EDITOR The Role The Lead Technical Editor (LTE) role is for creative and intelligent individuals who have keen interest in technology and the creation of technical content to help others learn new technologies or develop new skills. The focus of the LTE role is to ensure that books are written according to their specification and that the content meets Packt standards. The LTE gives feedback to authors and works with other Packt staff to ensure books are developed according to their specifications and meet their set deadlines. The role requires you to work with many technologies. It is ideal for fast learners who are interested in following emerging technologies and what professional computer users are interested in. You will be working with a large number of authors, reviewers, and other contacts across the world and from a variety of backgrounds. Strong interest in managing relationships is necessary for success in this role. Desired Experience Level: 0-2 Years Desired Candidate Profile • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent command of English. • Ability to learn technologies fast. • Effective Time management and ability to work to deadlines. • Ability to work independently and self-manage with minimal supervision. • Multitasking. The LTE works on multiple projects at a time, with different titles being in different stages of development. • Excellent ability to work in a team • Three months editorial experience (would be an advantage) Role Description • Review book content. • Work with authors to ensure that they write good quality content that meets the requirements of the book specification. • Manage relationships with authors, reviewers, and other contacts. • Work with the in-house teams to ensure that books are published on time. • Produce regular reports that compare the plan targets against actuals, and identify problems and actions. • Meet the set productivity and quality targets. • Meet book deadlines. • Develop a good understanding of technologies and their book markets • Contribute to the discussion of book outlines. JOB PROFILE FOR TECHNICAL EDITOR The Role The Technical Editor will be responsible for checking the technical accuracy as well as the grammar and language aspects of all chapters in a book and ensuring that the books have international quality. The Technical Editor should look into the quality of the book in terms of structure, content, tone, audience, pedagogy, mechanics, formatting, consistency, and code. In a nutshell, the Technical Editor functions as both a reader advocate and an author coach. The Technical Editor should make sure that the information is accessible to the intended audience, and at the same time direct the authors and help them reach their highest potential. Desired Experience Level – 0+ year (Training will be provided to groom you in the role) Required Technical Knowledge, Experience, and Skills • A degree in sciences, math, computers or other related field. • Excellent written and spoken English language skills. • Knowledge and experience with Windows operating system and standard Windows applications. • Ability to grasp the gist of new technologies and apply the knowledge while editing books of those technologies. Good to Have • Technology savvy. • Knowledge of Linux and Open Source technologies (but not necessary).
