Hi, I hope this email finds you well. I did a road trip again, hooray! We left on Friday and headed towards picturesque Haenertsburg in the Limpopo province. We almost didnt make it because my vehicle was giving problems but thanks to the REVA, the company that I work for and its amazing employees who eagerly jumped in and fixed the problem, assuring us a safe journey… Thank you guys! We arrived at Danie and Marda in the late afternoon, Danie is a kiwi farmer with a beautifully organised and manicured farm high in the mountains and surrounded by large pine trees. We spent most of the time outside in his vast garden enjoying the sights and the sound of the wind in the high trees. Danie is an ex-military man with a deep love and understanding of nature, I enjoy his mentality and easy conversation. You might be wondering why I am sitting with a fluffy Yorkshire Terrier on my lap… Well, when it came time to name the little guy, Danie decided to call him Dieter… Im glad that it is not the miniature variety :-) The following morning after a delicious breakfast and promises to visit again shortly we made our way toward a tree… Some speculate this baobab tree to be 6000 years old! I enjoy being in the presence of any old tree but a baobab tree is special to me. The Bushman legend says: The baobab was among the first trees to appear on the land. Next came the slender, graceful palm tree. When the baobab saw the palm tree, it cried out that it wanted to be taller. Then the beautiful flame tree appeared with its red flower and the baobab was envious for flower blossoms. When the baobab saw the magnificent fig tree, it prayed for fruit as well. The gods became angry with the tree and pulled it up by its roots, then replanted it upside down to keep it quiet. Thus it is known to be called the upside down tree :-) On Sunday morning I gave a talk at the church. I must admit, I was not eager to do it and the reason being that I felt like I didnt have much to say, speaking about myself feels a bit narcissistic and everybody has a challenging path to walk on, then who am I to think mine special? The pastor, Ian, is a good friend of mine and a persistent bugger who didnt allow me to sidestep the engagement which Im very pleased he didnt… I witnessed the inspiration in the audience which now forces me to reconsider my perception… Thank you Ian. A very enjoyable road trip that has left me feeling energetic and inspired.
