Hi..I live on Old Airport Road and had fallen on the pavement - TopicsExpress

Hi..I live on Old Airport Road and had fallen on the pavement outside Golden Enclave when I was 6 months pregnant. Im now 9 months pregnant and although it took me 3 months to get the government to fix this pavement - I want you to know it is possible!! Heres how I did it: 1. I made a video of this bad stretch and addressed it to the CM. I posted the video on similar forums and the video went viral. I mailed it to the concerned authorities, but no one got back. 2.I registered a complaint on the BBMP site, addressed to my corporator. 3.Bangalore Mirror covered my fall and named all the people I tried to get in touch with - slowly the authorities began to take notice. 4. Although I was in touch with my corporator right through, all he seemed to do was put me on to different departments and people in the hope that I would get tired of this circus and give up. 5. I got in touch with the BBMP Commissioner and explained the situation. 6. TV9 covered my story and the state of the pavements. They put 6 residents of Golden Enclave on a panel and called our corporator during the discussion - this was a turning point as the discussion was live and he was asked to meet with us the next day. 7. We had two long drawn out meetings and after alot of yelling and ego issues he put us in touch with the Major Road Works department. 8. Its been a week since theyve begun work and I make sure Im there everyday to supervise - though the initial work was very raw and shoddy, we got them to change slabs and redo work till we were satisfied. 9. CNN IBN aired this journey and heres the link :ibnlive.in/videos/518829/cj-report-plight-of-broken-pavements-old-airport-road-bengaluru.html Here are a few things Ive learnt these past months: 1. Be persistent. 2. Be polite, yet very matter of fact. 3. Use the media - it is the only ammunition we have against the government (as bad press affects their vote banks) 4. Speak the local language (try, if you can - it really does go a long way) 5. The government is not doing us a favour - it is their job to fix our roads and pavements. 6. Supervise at every level. Its up to us to get the quality we want. 7. Dont diss the government at every level - be as positive and persistent as you can! All the very best!!
