Hi, Im Lori -- and I have cats! Who routinely shove their heads through my mini-blind slats and break them (See Picture 1). I used to run to Lowes several times a year and replace all of them. But earlier this year, I realized I could simply repurpose the unbroken slats from one blind to fix them until I WANT to buy a new blind for other windows. Heres how I do it: 1) Remove a broken slat by simply tearing it off the holding string. 2) Cut the string at the bottom of the blind that will be repurposed; this allows you to simply slide the slats off of it. 3) There are three sets of holding strings across the width of the blind. Start with one end and pull the first set of strings apart with your fingers (see Picture 2). 4) Slide the slat in between these holding strings. (See Picture 3) 5) Continue to the middle set of holding strings and repeat. 6) Slide the slat into the final set of holding strings. It will now turn in the strings when the blind lever is used. 7) Repeat this for any broken slats and your blind will look new! (See Picture 4). Some white blinds will darken from sun exposure; I have found that these eventually match up with the newer blind. Or use this technique only on blinds that arent so easily seen (these are on a bedroom blind, for example).
