Hi. Its me, Belle, and I have a New Year resolution I want to - TopicsExpress

Hi. Its me, Belle, and I have a New Year resolution I want to share with you. But first I have to give you a little background. If you read the Adopt-An-Angel Facebook postings regularly, you sometimes see items about dogs and cats who have been homeless for months. Well, Ive got all of them beat by a mile. Im about 6 years old and Ive been homeless for my whole life, or at least a much of it as anyone can remember. Until about a year ago I was one of a group of dogs living in the woods and in an old shed near Southport. When the people from R.A.C.E. found out about us they embarked on a long term effort to feed us daily, get us our basic shots and get us neutered. They didnt have foster homes for all of us, so they decided the best option was to care for us where we were and take us in as foster homes became available. Then one day last December I went blind. Although it didnt seem like it at the time, that was my lucky day. R.A.C.E. took me to the vet where they found I had detached retinas in both eyes. The vet thought there was only a small chance I would regain any significant vision. R.A.C.E. made a huge effort to find a foster home for me. They called other rescue groups, and luckily found that Adopt-An-Angel had a family who had recently fostered a blind dog and had room for me. Within a couple of days I was foster dog living in an actual HOUSE with people and another dog and a cat! Nobody really knew how I would do in a house, but I took to it like a champ. Ive become a world class couch potato. (Actually Im a dog bed potato because I never jump up on the furniture.) And my foster family says I have had excellent house manners from the very beginning. In 2014 I accomplished a lot: I was treated for heartworms (that was really rough) and am now heartworm free. I learned to walk nicely on a leash. I learned not to be so scared of strange places and people. Im still slowly getting better at that week by week. I learned that I dont have to defend my food from familiar people and animals. I learned how to live with cats. (Helpful hint: It turns out cats do not generally like to have their butts sniffed.) And best of all: I CAN SEE AGAIN!! Only in one eye and not as good as before, but good enough to be just fine in a familiar environment. Ive been a foster dog for a year now. Thats been great, but my journey isnt finished. I only have one thing left on my to-do list, so its my New Years resolution for 2015: Find my forever home. Can you help me with that?
