Hi Ladies 😃 New Sisterhood venture which is super easy to be a part of: My sister is frequently in and out of RACH (childrens hospital) with her son who has Spina Bifida. It came to my attention that there are parents there in a similar situation as my sis but who dont have family or friends nearby bringing them food. The hospital policy is that breastfeeding mothers are fed but otherwise you have to fend for yourself. As you can imagine this can end up pretty expensive and/or difficult for parents to keep a watch on their child and feed themselves. I recall when we had a visit to hospital with Knox that I was starving and in my first trimester of pregnancy. Simon ended up getting me Macdonalds as it was the only option at that time of night in the vicinity! I remember thinking at the time that it would have been good to have an emergency kit for worried parents so they could eliminate hunger off the list of their issues.👍 I have been in touch with the ARCHIE Foundation Support Officer to ask if there was a need in her mind. She agreed that there was and wondered if we could provide an emergency food pack for parents who were caught off-guard or who were far from home etc. This would be relatively low maintenance - only needing attention when she got in touch (every 6 weeks or so was the estimate). It is not meant to be long term solution for parents - more an emergency stop-gap while things are overwhelming for them. Soooooo...as part of our Soul Food ministry we will make up a food pack and deliver it to the hospital as the need arises. I am meeting the Archie Foundation Support Officer (Lynn) next week so if you could bring items at the weekend it would be greatly appreciated. If you can purchase some of the following items and put them in the Soul Food trolley then I can deliver them to the ARCHIE Support Officer who will make sure any parents in need are blessed with them. Thank you! Tins of soup Tinned meals (beans, spaghetti, pies etc) Crackers Long life milk/powdered milk Tea Coffee Biscuits Any other relevant food types with long shelf life (cereal bars, dried fruit mixes etc) Thanks ladies! 😃😃😃
