Hi Pinoys, please take time to read this. I must post this because I sometimes see pro-Palparan (pro-extrajudicial killings, really?) posts on my Facebook by people whom I feel do not understand the context better. Please read this, and try to understand, that in the peripheries of the country, thuggery, brutality, and the displacement of tribal communities, can come from the military. In the documentation project of political killings in Mindanao back in 2008 that I was involved in, I recall indigenous children saying that they are hadlok sa militar (scared of the military). The local community would see the military as thugs who would come to feast on their seasons harvest, destroy self-sustaining schools and clinics funded by overseas NGOs, and exert violence on an otherwise peacefully thriving community. There is a certain paranoia from the military that all kinds of community development are initiated by the NPAs, and as we saw it, even the community that had a very visible Funded by the European Communities sign at its entrance gate, was mercilessly invaded by the military, scaring away the indigenous community.
