Hi! So I got an quick informal review today. My principal saw my 5 minute demo on knitting. His comments were that I should have just stuck with one needle and just had all the kids practice casting on. Adding a second needle and going any further than that he considered inappropriate. I thought our 5 minute demos were just to introduce possibilities to our students of things they could try in each of our centers. I showed the kids just a real quick this is what knitting is and an example of a knit product.....am I wrong? (I had kids who were interested and I did sit with them and actually taught them one-on-one how to cast on. Of course he left right after the demo and did not see what other projects the kids had invested themselves in or that anyone stayed to ask more after I released the kids to their projects.) Am I wrong? Are our 5 minute demos supposed to be more interactive? So far in my textiles center I have introduced sewing, embroidery/cross stitch, crochet, and knitting. Do I approach my principal and try to explain this approach and that the kids are not expected to do everything in each center and may choose to learn more info about something they were briefly introduced to later and then I go more in depth? How would you approach this? What would you do? He has entered this as evidence on Teachscape for the Danielson Framework and I dont believe his comments truly represent what was happening in the room. He has no idea what TAB is and thinks it has something to do with behavior.....UGH. Help!
