Hi TRĀL Volunteer, I am happy to announce our first event in 2014 supporting the Cave Creek District. On Saturday March 29th we will be partnering with the Rio Verde Community on a clean-up and restoration project in the Box Bar and Azatlan recreation areas. For those of you not familiar with this area, it is one of the few remaining areas in Cave Creek with access to the Verde River and Box Bar is a key OHV access point for FR160, which is the last remaining OHV route to connect Cave Creek and Mesa Districts. Unfortunately several years of unmanaged cross-country travel have left the area pretty torn up which will likely lead to some closures in the area. TRĀL is pushing for a permitted gated access point to preserve user access to FR 160 (except when the seasonal eagle closure is in effect) and to certain areas north of Box Bar which are important to local users who like to access the river further north of the day use area. We see our participation in this event as a way to support the District on a project which is highly visible and important to them and very important to users interested in preserving access to FR 160. We also have the opportunity to build relationships with the local community showing them the positive impact we responsible OHV users can have. The local community expects to have a large number of volunteers (more than 50) so in parallel with the clean-up they will be working on a separate project at the site to restore some of the damage that has accumulated over the years in the area. As we get closer to the event we will post the specifics but it should be a great event and as always, lunch will be served! Please hold the date on your calendar and sign-up if you are available to help. Thanks! Steve Speak
