Hi Team! Great job, times are dropping. To follow up on today - weve got a few races under our legs and now we have to take care of that foundation and build on it. However, our core muscles/upper body muscles have to support all of that lower body strength. In order for that to happen, core workouts are vital. Cores need to be done to its entirety and with proper form. Coach Wolf and I point this out as much as we can during the workout but for some of you it has become a habit to do the workout incorrectly and its something that needs to change because if your core muscles are not keeping up with all of the mileage that you are doing the greater the risk of injury there is. Little things like cores are going to make a big difference in May. When I was in high school, some of the top runners in the area attended a summer camp and worked out with former Olympian Pascal Dobert as well as other Olympians. Evan Jager, who was also at high school at the time, was at the camp . I was a middle-distance runner in high school who started doing cross country my junior year and I didnt really know how to control my upper-to-lower body strength with all the mileage I started piling up junior year of cross country. Even though I got through the season well off, I found my core muscles giving up on me quickly. This camp changed that for me, and working out with a world-class long distance runner like Evan Jager turned into competitive practices and meets with/against a world-class long distance runner Evan Jager. Ill share a video of some of the workouts - runnerspace/video.php?video_id=52621-Core-Routine-Saturday-Part-1-Pascal-Dobert-Introduction-Nike-Elite-Camp-2011 - Some of these we do, some of these you have not seen. Some of them we may look into, some of them Coach Wolf and I may look into having you do individually depending on the persons needs. Again, it never hurts to do a little bit extra at home. If you have a stationary bike at home or if you go five minutes around your block and stretch and then do cores - thats awesome. If you have any questions about some of the workouts on this video please come talk to me. Homework is what I started doing on a routine basis in high school with these core workouts after practice in our basement next to the stationary bike. These are some of the little things that took me to the next level in the 400 and 800 meter races and these are the little things that can make a difference for you. COACH TOM
