Hi William, When I asked my almost four-year-old boy what he wanted for his birthday, he replied, “A bike with fire shooting out the back, a trampoline, and a pool.” Let me clarify. That means a bike with rocket boosters, a 15-foot trampoline, and fully installed pool in the back yard (not the Walmart blow-up variety). When asked again yesterday, he repeated the list and added a phone. Again, think iPhone or Android, not Fisher Price. I’ll give him one thing…the boy dreams big. And believe me, I wanted to give it all to him just for asking big. My Bible study on believing God suggests that God wants to do the biggest thing I can dream up, and more. I look at Jesus’ life. He was genuinely impressed by people who asked him for impossible things. And I wonder how I’ve only asked for blow-up pools and toy phones these 39 years. I pray for the minimum and what seems possible, just in case God can’t or won’t answer my prayers. Does God need me to give him an “out” so that my faith isn’t dashed by unanswered prayer? No, the author of faith can overcome doubt. Instead, he wants me to give him a faith-filled “in,” allowing him to move in a way that I can’t possibly deny his existence.
