Hi again, Bali, well for those who so far have not been to this island its very well represented by first time overseas travellers. A safe easy destination to visit. Shopping in poppies 1 and 2 is a great introduction to the asian culture. Many fake branded clothes ,shoes , bags, sunglasses, dvds AFL football merchandise etc......Resort style beach view accommodation or balinese cultured local architecture on offer for the tourists. Legian street is the main tourist strip with the memorial where the bombings took place. First bomb hit the Paddys bar then a vehicle parked outside the Sari club went off a few minutes later. Many tourists not interested but lots do ask the locals re Schapelle Corby, where is the family shop, well we found it and popped in, only the brother in law......if anyone is heading to Bali and would like to know how to find the shop, I can pass on the directions as its hard to find . Internet data here can be quiet challenging as some stall holders sell SIM cards at crazy inflated prices, when asked what your data is they just agree and tell you yes very good, best to head to a specialist phone stall , taxi can help you. Correct price is 15,000 rupees for SIM card and 100,000 rupees for data which will last 1 week unlimited. Many traffic jams here so the best way is by motorbike taxi but helps if you are extra good at negotiating. AFL is very big over here and every game is live in several bars. Great win by the cats over the roos...... Kuta is the area most tourists visit here with Seminyak also popular. The local economy is healthy and growing, $100 aud equals 1,070,000 ind rupee....everyone is a millionaire here lol. A visit to the volcano that spread its lava eight years ago was incredible to see. Mount Batur is still an active volcano today . The locals gather the lava rock then crush it and sell to concrete manufacturers...4 men crush it with sledge hammers and fill one truck per day (hard work) all by hand. Much like other south East Asian countries a local driver is ready available for $50 per day. Box of 20 cigarettes is around $1.50 and the popular beer here is called Bintang and priced at 10,000 rupee ($1 ) per 330ml . My favourite drink is the Bali cider......Once your in the Kuta beach area its easy to get trapped in and spend all your time and not get out of Kuta / Denpasar ......with $7.50 massages and sunrise / sunset beaches and friendly helpful balinese people honing their skills on increasing their daily takings. The Balinese people are very talented , stone sculptures, painting, glass works and woodcarving. Woodcarving is a real artform passed-on from father to son over many generations. The carvers production is quiet varied, ranging from mythological statues to carvings of animals , flowers and fruits. Balinese woodcarvers are also renown for furniture , carved doors and windows and columns. The most popular timber here is the hardwood specie mahogany . Well off to Thailand today ..... try and stay warm in tassy.....cheers
