Hi all - Convention Director Matt Solberg here. It is the sad - TopicsExpress

Hi all - Convention Director Matt Solberg here. It is the sad part of my job when I have to announce that certain guests are no longer able to attend. It happens every year and it happens at conventions like ours all across the country. David Morrissey is unable to attend Phoenix Comicon this year. From his agent, David Morrissey wrote to us this morning that his production is running over and he will have to work through the dates of your event. He must unfortunately cancel his appearance. He is disappointed he won’t be able to meet his fans this year but hopes you think of him for 2015. We will of course work at booking him for 2015. Normally when an actors film production runs over we make efforts to shorten their appearance and having them attend for at least one day, as they traditionally do not work over weekends. This is not possible in Mr. Morrisseys case as he was scheduled to fly from Britain. Wheres a TARDIS when we really need one? We know there will be disappointment over Mr. Morrisseys cancellation. He was one of our more popular guests due to his work on The Walking Dead and Doctor Who. We hope that there is still so much more for you to do and so many other guests for you to meet at Phoenix Comicon that your attendance is not hampered. We work at booking additional actors in lieu of those who cancel. We have a set number of table locations for actors, and we want them to be used in as much as possible at Phoenix Comicon. While it would ideal to replace one actor with an equivalent actor, we know it doesnt work that way. Even prior to this news today, we have been waiting for responses on additional actors to attend. We know were less than a month to our show, and weve let the agents know theyre cutting it close. Actors sometimes do not know what their filming commitments and schedules will be even this close, for as we saw today, Mr. Morrissey believed he would be available, and its only now during production that they know if they will end on time or run over. While we do sign contracts with actors, those contracts contain clauses that any filming or promotional commitments take priority over attending our show. It is standard language as an actors film commitment is their career. It makes it all the more special when an actor is able to attend. As soon as actors commit and sign contracts, we announce them. We receive close to one thousand guest requests in the lead up to Phoenix Comicon. We keep track of them to determine who is most requested, who might be a unique guest, and if there is anyone we had not thought of inviting. I read every comment and post to our Facebook page as well. Sadly, there is no way to invite every guest that is recommended to us, even when those recommendations come via frequent posts on our Facebook page (looking at you Dandy Bell!). :) We appreciate the passion everyone brings to Phoenix Comicon and thank you for your understanding with this news.
