Hi all - Pen is actually typing this but I will be damned if I can get the thing to post as me at the minute..! Right - to clarify. The pup that came in last night was brought into the Nowzad clinic late at night by three Afghan women. They wanted us to check him out as they thought he had a broken paw. He didnt and we convinced them to have him vaccinated there and then for rabies, parvo, distemper and wormed. They also paid us although they didnt look like the had much money. The younger girl absolutely adored the pup. We asked if he was going to be a fighting dog and they assured us he will not be used for fighting when he is older. We have asked them to bring him back for regularly FREE check ups. They agreed. Some Afghans like dogs, some dont. Please remember we employ 14 Afghan nationals who care passionately everyday for the dogs, cats and donkeys we look after here in Kabul. Education is key out here. It will take time but eventually we will see improvements to animal welfare here in Afghanistan. Please keep the faith in Afghanistans ability to learn and progress. Our staff are living proof of that is does happen. Our four Afghan vets (two who are women) are amazing in their care and treatment of animals.
