Hi all, As the 13th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11 approaches - TopicsExpress

Hi all, As the 13th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11 approaches tomorrow, I want to share my deepest sympathy with all of you whose loved ones and colleagues were killed that day. No matter how many times we think about what happened on September 11, 2001, when the actual anniversary arrives it is an emotionally difficult experience. I want to take time also to remember the great kindness many people have shared with other people in response to the attacks. Every day hundreds of visitors from around the world come in to the 9/11 Tribute Center to acknowledge our losses, to express sympathy and offer us wishes for peace and a better tomorrow. Many positive endeavors have been initiated in response to the attacks too, by you, your friends, and by others seeking a more humane world. Here at Tribute we continue to work on projects that we hope will brighten the future. We just released a new set of online educational materials that help teachers talk about 9/11 in their classrooms. Take a look at it – listen to what students say about why they are grateful to have learned these lessons teaching911.tributewtc.org/. We continue to hold informative public programs like the one we presented in collaboration with Pace University this past Monday on Journalists Who Covered 9/11. Five brilliant reporters talked about the emotion they still feel when talking about what they saw at the World Trade Center and the injuries they sustained while reporting an ongoing event to the world. Our community of volunteer guides who give tours every day, 7 days a week, has grown. We have trained over 670 that come from the 9/11 community. family members, survivors, recovery workers, volunteers and downtown residents and workers who decide they want to share their stories as a way of honoring the victims. I am so pleased that the unprecedented horror I experienced along with so many of you on 9/11 has been turned into a mission of courage, compassion and hope for the future. Yes, we do need to do a lot more in the way of education but we have made great strides there also. Thank you all for helping make some of our dreams come true by caring the torch. Fly our great flag tomorrow in remembrance of those lost both here and our military abroad. God Bless America, Lee
