Hi all! Heres a great opportunity for any of our Jewish students who love to sing. Dear Friends, It is with great pleasure and excitement that we announce the launch of HaZamir Seattle, the 28th chapter of HaZamir: The International Jewish High School Choir. Founded over 20 years ago as a project of the Zamir Choral Foundation, HaZamir now has 23 chapters across the United States and 5 in Israel. HaZamir stands out as a unique, transdenominational experience that inspires and educates our teens on many levels: Jewishly, musically, and socially. We are thrilled to bring this opportunity to teens in the Greater Seattle area, and hope that you will help us spread the word and recruit candidates. HaZamir is an auditioned choir, open to Jewish musical teens in grades 8-12 who can match pitch and hold their own in a 4-part ensemble. Weekly rehearsals provide music lessons, voice coaching, and education in Jewish history and culture, through study of the texts being sung—all in a fun, healthy, social environment, where teens from all streams of Judaism are embraced. Each HaZamir chapter learns the same repertoire, culminating in an annual HaZamir Festival and gala concert in a major New York City venue. (Last year HaZamir sold out Carnegie Hall and this year HaZamir will appear in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center.) In addition, HaZamir singers in 11th and 12th grade can earn college credits (accepted at over 70 U.S. colleges and universities). HaZamir Seattle will rehearse on Sunday afternoons from 2:30 – 4:30PM, under the direction of Jacob Finkle. A graduate of Vassar College, Jacob is completing a Master of Music in Choral Conducting and a Music Education Teaching Certification at the UW. He also serves as Conductor of the Intergenerational Choir at University Unitarian Church, Conductor of the Herzl Ner Tamid High Holidays Choir, and Assistant Conductor of Seattle Jewish Chorale. Our first Rehearsal, Open House and informal Auditions (no preparation necessary) will take place on Sunday, September 14, from 2:30PM-5:30PM at [location TBD, Seattle Northend]. There will be additional audition times during the fall and winter. Interested families should email us at hazamirseattle@gmail for the location and more information. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact us at any time. (For more on HaZamirs international organization, visit zamirchoralfoundation.org/programs/hazamir.htm.) Our passion for HaZamir knows no bounds, and (despite a bit of a late start), we are committed to getting HaZamir Seattle off the ground this season. More than just a choir, HaZamir is a musical youth movement, committed to strengthening Jewish identity, developing leadership skills, and inspiring excellence. (Here is a small taste of that excellence in action: HaZamir USA singers visiting and performing with their Israeli counterparts/friends: https://youtube/watch?v=jKwS4XEoLeo) We deeply appreciate any effort you can make to help us connect with teens and families who will appreciate this one-of-a-kind program. With thanks and best wishes, Jacob Finkle, Conductor, HaZamir Seattle Michele Yanow, Coordinator, HaZamir Seattle hazamirseattle@gmail HaZamir is a project of the Zamir Choral Foundation, Matthew Lazar, Founder & Director
