Hi all, In the interests of preserving the secular nature of the group and keeping posts here on-topic, the admins request that you please refrain from posting Christmas greetings. Its okay, those who have already done so are not in trouble, but we are deleting such posts. The problem is that on the one hand we want to keep things closely related to translation, and on the other hand we have always set out to keep religion out of the group (unless we are talking about the translation of the Quran, Bible or other religious text from a purely academic perspective). If we allow Christmas greetings, well obviously have to open it up to every faith and will see numerous posts for religious festivals all the year round. It also invites conflict, as in a group of over 4,300 members, there will always be one who wants to start a round of My god(s) is/are better than your god(s). And the rest of us will just get pissed off at the nonsense that ensues... ;) That is why, in the interests of maintaining harmony in this VERY international group, we decided to not allow Christmas greetings (nor anything for Hannukah, Eid, Divali, etc...).
