Hi all! Its Sabrina. Last summer we worked studiously to compile a list of fans across the nation who were willing to go the extra mile to step in and assist the band if needed. This included persons who were willing to do such things as cover the merchandise booth for the guys during a concert, stir up excitement in the crowd, up to and including simple prayer or a hot lunch. The list was borne out of a need one evening for someone to cover the merchandise booth and the fact that they didnt know whether they had any supporters in the area to call upon. It all worked out in the end but we realized that they could need ready access to fan support for any number of emergencies. The list had three main elements - a map, a list of names by state, and a PRIVATE list containing personal contact information. We attempted to set it up in a way that offered several options for anyone concerned about internet safety. We gathered information using the FaceBook Private Message Boards. To preserve as much safety as possible (in that circumstance) I harvested the information from the Private Messages and deleted it immediately, while suggesting that fans did the same on their side of the PM board. The information was compiled into a document which I protect with my life. It is not saved electronically nor was it transmitted electronically. I delivered it, in person, to the band. Since early Fall, however, the circumstances within our country have caused concerns about transmitting personal data. We have begun to question the safety of the using the Facebook Private Message Board. In addition, we do realize that this is a public page. Anyone...of any persuasion...can lurk here to observe and take data. Also...if it comes right down to it, social media gives anyone the ability to create and use a cover identity that is completely false. Since these concerns have risen, we have not updated our list. During these winter months , before the busy touring season begins in Spring, Id like to somehow update our Supporters List. Due to the inherent risks, I honestly dont know how is best to proceed. Can anyone offer suggestions? Should we continue using the FB PM board? It has been suggested that e-mail is definitely NOT safe. If it comes down to it, are any of you willing to go so far as to send information through the US Postal Service? Are there other alternatives? Id love to hear your thoughts on this!
