Develop your own kirtan practice Weekend Retreat with Tabla Tom What : Hey there, Om Namah Shivai. After a few requests over the past year i am going to facilitate a Bhakti workshop/sharing at my house in the Stroud area. DEVELOP YOUR OWN KIRTAN PRACTICE, harmonium and percussion. 2 days, 1 night staying at our house including homemade organic food, sharing in our Bhakti practice and learning how to play harmonium and percussion. Some of the things that we will touch upon will be - Harmonium, learning a few well known bhajans - Rhythm, learning to go deep inside, playing hand cymbals, tambourine and drums (dholak, tabla bring your own drum and percussion instruments or we can lend you some). -Learning how to breath into and relax with slow/medium and fast tempos while playing percussion instruments. - Learning how to accompany someone leading a kirtan while playing a percussion instrument -Learning how to lead a kirtan song. - Staying 1 night and 2 days and joining Thrisha (my wife) and i for Babaji aarti the morning of the second day. -Satsang (spiritual discussion) and sharing the significance of mantra, puja, kirtan, ceremony and the Guru in our lives. -We live next to some lovely wilderness, small lakes and forest, so we can go for a walk too. About Tom : Tom started singing kirtan at the Shivananda yoga centre in Putney and with a Hare Krishna band in 1993. In 1996 had the great blessing of meeting Gopal Hari and Ambika from the Babaji band Goma. For many years he toured with them across UK and Europe, and learned that Bhakti practice is about the heart and that music is merely the tool to express devotion to the Highest Self and Guru. Tom’s Guru is Sri Haidakhand Baba, who emphasised the practice of mantra and karma yoga (selfless service) as the simple and best way to a meaningful life. Tom has also been blessed to support kirtan wallahs (mantra singers) from other spiritual lineages like Krishna Das, Bhagawan Das, Jaya Lakshmi and many others lovely souls from India and UK. All share the same spirit of humility and cosmic connection to the divine through chanting simple mantras. “This practice has changed my life.
