Hi all. Sorry to be a complete bore on a Sunday but I have been reading up on the rules and regs of 1st/2nd claim cycling club membership with regards to racing, time trialling, CX, audax and other disciplines I havent thought of! For the benefit of anyone thinking of switching! Its no problem at all. However to sum up the rules your only allowed to race or time trial 1st claim for 1 cycling club in each discipline. You could theoretically road race for one club 1st claim and time trial for another club 1st claim. All this means is that if you switch clubs you need to inform the membership secretary so that you can be made 2nd claim member or ask to leave the club all together. Its all a bit archaic and complex I know but its BC and CTT rules not Cleveland wheelers. Some newer or even older members might not understand the complex rules. Im not to clear myself and it took a while to find it in black and white. Also just to note this only effects British cycling and ctt affiliated clubs. For example you could be a 1st claim member of Cleveland wheelers, Cleveland tri club, North Yorkshire moors running club and Nunthorpe dominos club without any problem. Have a look at the rule extracts below and see how you interpret them? Cheers, Dave k British cycling first claim rules 7.10.1 A rider may only be a first claim member of one club for all forms of road and track competition. 7.10.2 A competitor in an open event may only enter and compete in the name of his first claim club, as an individual member, or as a member of a National, Region or Association representative team. 7.10.3 When changing his first claim club a member must immediately send his Federation membership certificate to Federation Headquarters for the change to be made. The membership certificate will be forwarded to the Secretary of the new Club. 7.10.4 A rider may apply to include more than one club or team on his competition licence where he wishes to ride for different clubs or teams in different disciplines. All such clubs or teams must be affiliated to British Cycling or another UCI affiliated Federation. Cycling time trials first claim rules 8. Club Membership A rider may only be a first claim member of one club and must enter Open and Semi-open events in the name of that club. A rider who changes his club after the closing date for entries must ride in the name of the new club but is not eligible for any team award. A rider may only change his first claim club once in any calendar year.
